چکیده

This paper rigorously examines a dynamic foundation of the maxmin criterion (also known as Rawlsian criterion), that selects a social outcome which maximizes the payoff of the worst off agent. In order to understand how the behavior of individual agents shapes up a social preference through repeated long term interactions among agents, we analyze a dynamic matching process in which a long term relationship is embedded. A society is populated with a finite number agents with two different roles, say row and column agents. Two agents are matched, and initiate the long term relationship if both agents agree to do so, which is then subject to a small probability of break-up to dump the agents back to the matching process. We focus on the outcomes sustained by a threshold decision rule slightly perturbed to incorporate sympathy in the spirit of [8]. For a general class of two person games, as the probability of continuing the long term relationship converges to 1, all agents in the economy almost always play the strongly Pareto efficient Rawlsian outcome, the most egalitarian outcome among strongly Pareto efficient outcomes. The Rawlsian criterion is generated through repeated long term interactions among agents in a decentralized fashion.

Aspiration, Sympathy and Maxmin Outcome

This paper rigorously examines a dynamic behavioral foundation of the Rawlsian criterion, that selects a social outcome which maximizes the payoff of the worst off agent. In order to understand how the behavior of individual agents shapes up this social norm through repeated long term interactions among agents, we analyze a dynamic matching process in which a long term relationship is embedded....

Dynamic Response of Multi-cracked Beams Resting on Elastic Foundation

Cracks cause to change dynamic response of beams and make discontinuity in slope of the deflection of the beams. The dynamic analysis of the Euler-Bernoulli cracked beam on the elastic foundation subjected to the concentrated load is presented in this paper. The stiffness of the elastic foundation and elastic supports influence on vibrational characteristics of the cracked beam. The Dynamic Gre...

Dynamic Stability of Functionally Graded Beams with Piezoelectric Layers Located on a Continuous Elastic Foundation

This paper studies dynamic stability of functionally graded beams with piezoelectric layers subjected to periodic axial compressive load that is simply supported at both ends lies on a continuous elastic foundation. The Young’s modulus of beam is assumed to be graded continuously across the beam thickness. Applying the Hamilton’s principle, the governing dynamic equation is established. The eff...

Optimal Streaming of Layer-Encoded Multimedia Presentations

In the context of communication networks with no QoS guarantees, we describe the problem of streaming layer encoded multimedia presentation data as a two-phase decision problem. We propose a measure of presentation quality called the refined maxmin metric that yields a computationally inexpensive algorithm for determining an optimal transmission policy needed within the second decision making p...

Numerical Investigation of dip angle direction of foundation Joint on nonlinear dynamic response of concrete gravity dams

The stability of a gravity dam on a jointed rock foundation might be endangered by weak joints that may be present in the fracture network of the bed rock. A review of the literature shows that there are few studies of the effect of a weak joint in the foundation rock on the stability of dams. This research uses the finite difference numerical modelling software ABAQUS to model a gravity dam, t...
